metaplace - Second Life done right?

Cory Doctorow posted an article about this new virtual world project. This looks like a better cut at what Second Life tried to do. Everything is web-based, and hooking into the web is expected. I signed up for the alpha, so hopefully I'll be accepted and be able to play with it some more.

I ran into this series of photos over at Signal vs. Noise.  I think it is about the coolest thing I've seen in quite a while.

The most interesting thing about it is that the setup is extremely simple.  Its one of those things where the process is the cool part.
